We all know that December is possibly the busiest month of the year…
End of year break ups, concerts, friendsmas’, carols, parties and of course getting organised for the big day!
For most professions, there seems to be an endless task list or things to wrap up before the end of year break.
And don’t get me started on how busy the shops are!
It's safe to say most people’s nervous system’s are ‘wired and tired’ throughout December. As Chiropractors, we notice a huge increase in headaches, tension, muscle aches, spontaneous back or neck pain and so on…. Our appointment books seems to be busier then ever!
It’s got me thinking… how can we help our health throughout this time so that the festive season can be less stressful for our bodies and brains!
One of my favourite quotes is “Control the controllable's”. It can feel like there are a lot of things that are out of our control in December, and we might not be able to change them. So what are the things we can control?
1. Carry water with you. Going shopping? A party? Long drive to visit family? Pack a water bottle with you always! Hydration is key.
2. Breath work. One of the simplest ways to regulate your nervous system and. only needs to take a few minutes if that’s all the time you’ve got. My favourite is lying on my back (but can be done anywhere) and breathing deeply through my nose, into my belly. Try to slow your breathing down.
(Don’t forget to check in with your body – are you subconsciously clenching your jaw? Traps activated?)
3. Stretches. Again, can be done in just a few minutes. Even just doing one stretch can be a total game changer for how you feel in your body!
4. Family walks. Some of my favourite memories of Christmas is a family walk after a big Christmas dinner. Great for digestion, posture, exercise, stress relief, social connection and nature time. Grab the kids and look at the local Christmas lights!
5. A Chiropractic adjustment! Can be helpful for nervous system regulation, release of tension and relief from pain and discomforts. Our standard appointments are 10 minutes long, so nice and easy to fit into a busy schedule. This one is also great for kids, who might be struggling with lots of late nights, activities and a bit of end of year burn out! Schedule your families adjustment before our books are full!
We sincerely hope you have a great December and if you're in need of a little extra support, Reynella Chiropractic Centre is here for!
